Overall I am pleased with this module and how I have progressed through it. During this module I was involved in a lot of collaborative briefs which has really benefited my design process. Working with others has helped me with my time management and organisation as I am more disciplined when others are relying on me to do the work. This has been the same for the clients I have worked with as well and has forced me to design for someone else's needs rather then getting caught up designing for my self which has happened in the past. Having interim deadlines and feedback sessions has allowed me to get other peoples valuable perspectives which have helped develop my work and push it a direction I wouldn't have necessarily expected it to go, making the overall outcomes stronger. The briefs I have selected this year have catered towards editorial design, an area of graphic design I want a careerer in and have helped me build an appropriate portfolio. At the start of the year I said I would have as many of my projects professionally produced as I could. I have managed to achieved this with a few briefs such as a Risograph printed zine and a book (which we are planning to get published in the near future) to give my work a professional finish for my portfolio. This module has also allowed me to explore more personal projects and subjects outside of graphic design that I have an interest in, using graphic design as a medium to express and explore them in. I feel showing my personal interests in my design work will be key in getting me the right kind of work in the future and shows that I have knowledge and skills in other areas.
My organisation and time management had been something I wanted to improve during the year and having up to 10 briefs on the go at once has really tested that. Creating simple daily goals and realistic to-do-lists has helped me drastically with finishing work and making decisions. I have now managed to ingrain these techniques into my day which have allowed me to be more efficient and motivated - something that I will need to be is I want to work for a fast moving design studio.
What I wished I had done more of is making use of the traditional print facilities in college such as screen print and letterpress as this has been my last opportunity to use them. This would have showed more variety in my portfolio and demonstrated that I have theses skills. One of the main reasons I didn't make use of these processes is mainly down to my time management as they can be very time consuming and often didn't allow my self enough time as I needed to do them.
